Nowhere Plank

Love it or hate it, we can all agree that the Nowhere Plank is a small rectangle. Across our broad range of products, if we're being real, the Plank stands out for being poorly designed as any kind of skill toy. The shape is not conducive to flipping around between the fingers. If you want that, our knucklebones are the evolved form, go buy one. This Plank is something else. It's effortless. If anything, it's more of a simple mindfulness tool than a skill toy. The Plank is something basic, even primordial. It just feels satisfying to hold in the hand. It is certainly possible to flip it around and do some basic manipulations with it, but where the Plank truly excels is in situations where full on manipulations would be an unwelcome distraction, either to you, or to others around you. Given the mindfulness aspect (now, here) and the idle meandering it supports (as opposed to conscious trickery), we've dubbed this little unit the Nowhere Plank. It may not be for you and that's fine. But if you're feeling it, we've got you.

Notes on the titanium versions: As with our other products, the titanium blasted finish tends to feel much smoother and less grippy in the hands compared to the polished versions. So, depending on your preference, you can choose the option that most interests you.

Notes on the ebony and Ultem versions: Both the ebony and the ultem planks are very lightweight compared to our initial titanium offering. This makes them very light in the pocket, as well as in the hand. As with our lighter weight deadeye coins and knucklebnones, manipulating the lightweight planks will take some getting used to, but as your hands become accustomed to the lighter touch they need, you'll appreciate how gravity stays out of the way and lets your hands just do their thing.

Both materials are offered in a glossy polished finish, as well as a matte machine finish. The polished finishes have a gleaming appearance, and provide substantially more grip for control. The machine finished surfaces are more dull in appearance, with less grip, allowing them to glide more smoothly between the fingers. Both finishes have their virtues.

      Nowhere Plank

Perfect bevels! The basic plank shape affords three features not found in knuckle bones or worry stones and similar shapes: edges, right angles and corners. It is the bevels that can make these features a tactile pleasure, and I cannot imagine a better execution than found in these planks regardless of the material used. As recommended, I did not begin with tricks or attempts to use planks like other shapes. I just let the planks speak to my hands.

      Simple mindless fun

Out of everything I own from A02 this is by far my favorite mindless thing I reach for while in Zoom meetings. I own both versions of the titanium model and I do enjoy both. However, I tend to reach for the original machined polish version. Never thought I would enjoy a bar of metal so much.

      Definitely a favorite

I kind of knew I needed one of these as soon as I saw the drop preview. Then I missed my alarm and missed my chance at the first run and I was really bummed. I’m happy to say it was worth the wait and I haven’t put it down since I got it in the mail. It has a comforting texture and weight and its simplicity is oddly soothing. Thanks Matt for making the random wonderful precision hunk of metal!

      Destination: Nowhere

The nowhere plank is a beautiful piece of deceptively simple machining. Since I got the original titanium version in my hands, I’ve been hooked. It’s very grounding to hold, and while it’s not made to be manipulated in the way the kbones are, it’s still very satisfying to move.

I love the solidity and weight of the titanium; the warmth and subtle grain of the ebony; the gorgeous coloration and nimbleness of the ultem. And I know that I’ll go wherever nowhere will take me next.

      Unexpected

I bought the polished ultem and ebony versions when they first dropped. Getting the Ti version was a no-brainer after the weeks spent with the first two. Each one has a unique feel. I typically alternate throughout the day.

I went with the machine finished Ti. I love the look and feel of the subtle lines on the faces and bevels. My favorite part is the way sunlight flickers off of it when I’m rolling it in my palm or flipping it through my fingers.

I never thought something so simple could be this satisfying. IMO these planks sort of bridge the gap between dexterity toy and sensory stone.
